If you are interested in learning more about our flight tracking system, you can find answers to some frequently asked questions about OpsControl below.

OpsControl flight tracking, data and terrestrial coverage

Is flight tracking data public?

Flight tracking combines terrestrial and satellite-based ADS-B technology data to provide accurate, real-time updates on an aircraft’s position, altitude, speed, and estimated arrival times. Most of this data is not public, but only accessible to aircraft operators. So, the answer to the question “Is flight tracking public?” is mainly “no”.

Can you track flights live?

Yes, with OpsControl, you can track flights live from take-off to landing. Using OpsControl’s Flight Tracker and Flight Radar software tools, you can follow aircraft positions in real-time as they move through their routes. The software provides detailed insights on arrivals, departures, and flight statuses, empowering you to make informed decisions.

Which flight planning systems does the flight tracking software integrate with?

The OpsControl software seamlessly integrates with PPS Flight Planning as well as other flight planning systems. Integrating the flight tracking software with a flight planning system will help dispatchers and flight operations achieve situational awareness and easy monitoring of flight statuses, for both planned flights and live flights.

What kinds of data feeds are used?

Besides relying on ADS-B data feeds via our own professional-grade ADS-B network, OpsControl is also supported by an array of other well-known flight tracking data sources, including satellite-based ADS-B, ACARS, various SATCOM connectivity services, third-party AC-mounted tracking devices & governmental data sets like Eurocontrol etc.

The ability to choose between data feeds not only enables you to customize your OpsControl setup to match your exact operational requirements, but it also lets you scale your flight tracking solution as your requirements may change over time.

How many tails can be tracked?

OpsControl allows you to track an unlimited number of tails, providing round-the-clock, 24/7/365 monitoring for your entire fleet—even inactive aircraft. With a flexible pricing structure, you’re only charged for active tails, meaning inactive aircraft don’t affect your monthly fee.

Is the flight data available after landing?

All post flight data is stored in the system. This means that with OpsControl and any flight planning system combined, users can analyze historical flight tracking data collected via the postflight module and use the findings to optimize future flight plans. The postflight data will ultimately help dispatchers make databased decisions, reduce operating costs, and provide a great competitive advantage – all based on facts.
